“A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman. But the search to find that voice can be remarkably difficult.”
- Melinda Gates
Originally established in 2009, The Kathleen Kavanagh Salmond Women’s Scholarship was founded in honour of women's dreams and ambitions.
Growing up, Kathleen Kavanagh (Salmond) dreamed of becoming a nurse, but due to both the lack of family support and financial difficulty, she was unable to achieve her dream. In establishing this mentorship and scholarship, the Kavanagh-Salmonds would like to ensure that other women have the opportunity to pursue a post-secondary education despite their adversities, and fulfill their dreams.
It was the unique feature of providing women with financial support parallel to social support and guidance through mentorship that propelled the program to grow and flourish, and it was soon obvious that the real value behind this organization was its volunteers and the network of opportunities that they all brought with them for the benefit and advantage of those enrolled.
